Rare: Chatelaine Vinaigrette
Refurbished metal chatelaine vinaigrette. Hang from your belt, bag, chatelaine, or use as a large pendant.
This piece is pretty goth, huh? Or maybe whimsigoth, or like... Stevie Nicks witch vibes. It definitely looks witchy. You can probably put some crazy spells in it.
What is a vinaigrette?
The vinaigrette was designed to hold absorbent materials like fabric scraps, sponge, or cotton soaked in fragrance. It was kept in pockets, hung on a chatelaine at the waist or as a pendant around the neck so the wearer could smell it when walking through the icky, piss and poo-strewn streets of ye olden days. Smelling a vinaigrette was thought to ward off miasmas: the foul-smelling air once believed to spread disease and illness. They evolved in the 18th century from pomanders, which were popular in the 16th century, and ultimately fell out of use when we figured out plumbing.
Keep yourself smelling delicious and feeling vivacious by affixing this vinaigrette to your belt loop, carabiner, purse, or convert it to a necklace pendant.
